This book is an exploration of the major themes that address some of the crucial questions about Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The constitutional imperatives regarding UCC coupled with the implications of bringing into effect UCC have been dealt with at the outset besides delving deep into issues like UCC vis-à-vis women’s rights. The book looks at the debate regarding UCC from the perspectives of constitution, judicial interpretation and possible socio-political fallouts that are likely to be at the core of any visualisation of having a UCC in India. So much has been written about this issue, but what differentiates the present endeavour is its renewed engagement with some of the core issues of UCC. The book adds richly to the existing literature on uniform civil code in India. It discusses some of the questions that have arisen in recent times, but at the same time retaining the conceptual nuances intact. The fact that all the chapters in the book are about only Uniform Civil Code dealing with specific issues relating to the Code, it offers varied perspectives on a single subject. It therefore helps the reader to look at the question of Uniform Civil Code from different possible perspectives, which is necessary in present times. The present book will be useful to anyone who is interested in the debate surrounding Uniform Civil Code in India. Both layman and lawman will be benefitted from the wide range topics that are constitutive of the book. It is written in simple language but retains conceptual clarity and depth.
