About the Book
A school can enable its students to develop their ability of thinking, the skill of doing and value system through a well-planned course of instructions. In such way of development or learning, sometimes problems arise among the school children for the factors, internal or external or both, culminating to the disturbance in their usual development. This edited book, bedecked with articles of experienced teachers and educationists all over India, has tried to identify the problems of school children from various facets in the Indian scenario and suggested remedial steps where the stakeholders- parents, teachers, counsellors and teacher educators should play responsible roles. About the Authors
Dr. Nita Mitra (Chanda) is a teacher educator by profession, a researcher by practice, an organizer by commitment, a motherly counsellor and guide for children by her simple approach and an author of several books and articles on historical, contemporary and futuristic issues by her dedication and honesty. She has completed projects sponsored by the UGC, ICSSR and Sarva Shiksha Mission (through District Project Office, Siliguri) and has organized state level and national level seminar sponsored by DST, W.B. and the UGC. In every sense her experiences are multidisciplinary. Through several webinars, she is enlightening the younger generation with her experiences. She is working as an Associate Professor in Geography of Siliguri B.Ed. College for about twenty-two years. Dr. Mitra (Chanda) started her higher studies in Geography. She completed an M.A. in Geography (Gold Medallist) and Ph.D. in Geography. After that, her focus of study and research extended towards Education, Teacher Education and Psychology (with emphasis on the psychology of counselling for school children and young adults). She obtained some prestigious awards like Gold Medal both in UG and PG, Jawaharlal Nehru Award, NCERT award in the All India Competition on Innovations in School Education, Bharat Jyoti Award etc. Beyond these formal academic activities, Dr. Mitra (Chanda) is attached with the Association for Liberal Learning and Research (ALLR) as the Vice-president and with Find Mind (A psychological & counselling unit of ALLR) as its Coordinator.
Dr. Soma Maitra, Assistant Professor of Chemistry of Pragati College of Education, Siliguri , has more than twenty-five years of teaching experience. Dr. Maitra completed M.Sc. in Chemistry (Organic) from the University of North Bengal, MA in Education (Rabindra Bharati University), M.A. in Psychology (IGNOU), M.Ed.( North Bengal University), Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Counselling ( Netaji Subhas Open University) and Ph.D. (Kalyani University). Previously she was the Lecturer – in-charge of Master Preetnath Primary Teachers’ Training Institute for about 6 years and was a guest lecturer of Siliguri B.Ed. College. She is the Founder- Director of Holy Child School, Siliguri and the Founder of Healing Touch, a centre for Psychological Counselling, Siliguri. She helps children, adolescents, adults as well as aged people in different domain of psychological distress as a Counselling Psychologist. She has participated and presented papers in different national and international seminars, and published many papers and articles in national and international journals.
